Getting started

KiwiABC works in any web browser — nothing to install. From the home page, choose a phase (or search by sound), open a case, and start reading clues. If you're not sure which phase fits your child, start with our curriculum guide or just try a case — if it's too easy or too hard, move a phase up or down.

Accounts & logins

There are two kinds of login:

• Teacher / parent account — created with an email and password at the login page. This is where you manage your class or your children, see progress on the dashboard, and handle your subscription on the account page.
• Student login — children sign in with a class code, their first name and a secret word at the student login page. Their solved cases and stars are saved to their name.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account to start?

No — the first mysteries in every phase are open to everyone. Just pick a phase on the home page and open a case. An account unlocks more and saves progress.

How does a mystery work?

Each case has a line-up of suspects and a set of clues. Your child reads a clue sentence, then chooses the spelling that finishes the missing word. Five correct answers rule out one suspect. When every clue is cracked, one suspect remains — the culprit!

How do student logins work?

A teacher or parent creates the account and adds children to a class. Each child logs in with the class code (like KIWI-5B), their first name, and a short secret word. No child email addresses — ever.

What does a subscription include?

Every mystery in every phase, saved progress and stars, student logins, and the teacher dashboard. Family covers one child at home; Classroom covers a class of up to 30 students.

How does billing work?

Plans are billed per year or per NZ school term (4 terms a year), in NZ dollars, GST inclusive. You can cancel anytime from your account page and keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.

The Listen button sounds robotic — can I change it?

The 🔊 Listen buttons use your device's built-in voice, so it varies between devices. On iPads and most laptops you can choose a nicer New Zealand or Australian voice in your device's accessibility or speech settings.

Something's not working?

If a page looks odd after an update, a hard refresh usually fixes it (Ctrl + F5 on Windows, Cmd + Shift + R on Mac). If a mystery won't load on a school network, ask your IT team to allow kiwiabc.co.nz — it's an education site. Still stuck? Email [email protected] and we'll sort it.
